Calgary & District Beekeepers Association (CDBA) is pleased to present a Beginner’s Beekeeping Course. This course covers topics that you need to know to start beekeeping and become a hobby beekeeper in your own backyard or become a commercial beekeeper. It is designed to provide the knowledge you will need for the entire beekeeping year.
Note: You must be a CDBA 2020 member to attend this course. If not a 2020 member yet, please sign up for a 2020 membership first.
Two days:
March 7, 2020 — 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
March 8, 2020 — 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Course content will include, as a minimum:
- Bee biology and colony behavior
- Bee purchase options
- Beekeeping equipment and tools;
- Hive Management (spring, summer, fall management plus overwintering)
- Pest and disease management
- Harvesting and extracting honey
- Beekeeping regulations in Alberta and City of Calgary Guidelines

Instructors: | The course will be taught by four beekeepers with over 80 years’ combined beekeeping experience. Two instructors are second generation commercial beekeepers and two are experienced Calgary area hobby beekeepers. These instructors have designed the course to give you the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to successfully commence beekeeping. |
