Hello fellow beekeepers. The annual winter potluck supper will again be held the last Sunday in January. The venue has changed to allow for more space, access & parking. We will meet at the Westgate Community Hall which is located south of Bow Trail with access off of 45th Street, located in the SW. The address: 4943 – 8 Ave SW

Ron Miksha will give the after-dinner talk.  His presentation will cover all sorts of stuff related to honey labels: what looks good, what sells honey, what’s awful and what’s illegal. It should be fun!

For the potluck, could you please register, and indicate what you would like to share?

Suggestion for the potluck: cole slaw, green salad, bean salad, jellied salad, deep brown beans, potato salad, macaroni salad, lasagna, deviled eggs, pork ribs, beef ribs, vegetable tray, cheese tray, fresh homemade bread or buns, pickles,

I will bring glazed ham & Boursin scalloped potatoes. Last year, there was no trace of either left on the dishes!

Westgate has a large kitchen stocked with a dishwasher, gas stove, plates and cutlery, which we will use.

Here is a link to the established rules for the Honey Competition: http://www.albertabeekeepers.com/files/HONEY-JUDGING-2018.pdf There will be the traditional three categories, Light, Dark, & Creamed

The Honey Competition will have one added event competing for the “Best Label and Packaging” ribbon. The winning entry will be determined by those attending. Everyone will have a vote. Bring your package with a label (hopefully it is not a drum of honey!) that will be available for all to examine and vote on. The winning label will have the most visual interest and I expect wow impact.

Another new item will be an open tasting of your honey. Could every family bring a container of your identified honey that I may taste and comment on? I will ensure that we have lots of fresh spoons to avoid contamination.

Westgate will have an ice surface. There will be ice for the kids to skate on and a heated area to change from boots to skates and back.

And finally, we have door prizes. I have approached two suppliers who will have a little something for us. I wonder if there is something you could bring for door prizes? Last year, I brought two jars of my pickled beets that Carole won. Could you bring something to add to the door prize booty? A jar of your honey?

I hope to see all of you at the Potluck & Honey Competiton 27 January 2019
